A leader in Corgan’s Office practice, Jay Smith brings more than 26 years of experience leading the design of complex workplace, mixed-use, institutional, and campus environments. Recognized for his collaborative leadership and design vision, he brings together multidisciplinary teams to create thoughtful, innovative solutions that connect people, place, and purpose.
Jay combines conceptual creativity with analytical thinking to guide projects from vision through execution. His portfolio includes landmark projects such as The Republic and 405 Colorado in Austin, NCR Global Headquarters in Atlanta, and Downtown South in Raleigh, one of the region's first planned mass timber developments. Jay has also led transformative higher education projects and campus master plans for institutions including NC State University, North Carolina Central University, UNC Pembroke, UNC Asheville, and Appalachian State University.
In addition to his practice leadership, he serves as a Professor of the Practice at NC State University's College of Design and is an active contributor to the architectural profession through teaching, speaking, and industry engagement. He has served on the AIA Triangle Board of Directors, chaired the AIA Triangle Design Awards, and led K-12 outreach initiatives that promote awareness of architecture's impact on communities and future generations.
A registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional, Jay earned a Master of Architecture, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU), participated in the European Residency Program in Architecture, Riva San Vitale, Switzerland while at VPI&SU and holds a Bachelor of Arts, Hampden-Sydney College.
