Elizabeth (Betsy) Stoel is a Vice President in the Urban, Campus and Cultural sector, where she leads both architecture and urban design projects. With twenty years of experience, she brings deep expertise in institutional and public realm works, translating complex urban challenges into thoughtful design solutions. Her collaborative, multidisciplinary approach shapes solutions that are sustainable, holistic, and stand the test of time.
Betsy is passionate about design that has a transformative impact on the urban environment — believing that meaningful interventions, regardless of scale or budget, can catalyze change in neighborhoods, communities, and cities. Known for her ability to navigate both large-scale and intimate design challenges, Betsy has led significant projects including a new entry courtyard for the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art, a $70 million charter school in the Bronx, a co-located elementary school and middle school science leadership academy within Drexel University’s UCity Square innovation district in West Philadelphia, and the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club’s flagship clubhouse in Harlem.
She has provided design leadership on winning competitions and serves as an educator and invited critic at leading institutions including Pratt Institute, the New York Institute of Technology, Parsons School for Design, and Harvard's Graduate School of Design. Her work has been published widely in leading architectural journals, and she has served as project editor for PRAXIS publication. Betsy earned a Master of Architecture from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Princeton University. Recognition for her work includes the Municipal Art Society's MASterworks award for best new building and honors from the Urban Land Institute.
