Honoring Chicago’s architectural history
Drawing inspiration from Chicago’s rich architectural history, The Club MDW’s design plays up drama with high contrast and striking monochromatic tones. As the first public lounge in Midway International Airport (MDW), The Club MDW by Airport Dimensions provides a much-needed reprieve from the bustling terminal.
Strong vertical elements act as a structural framework, defining spatial divisions and reinforcing visual cues as guests move through the lounge. Arched walls, a stone bar top and gilded elements are reminiscent of the city’s iconic Art Deco architecture, while the clean and minimal geometry — a nod to Chicago’s midcentury modern architecture boom — offers an elegant backdrop. Textural materiality, metallic accents, and plush upholstery provide warmth and comfort, enhancing the overall guest experience. The lounge features a bold palette of black and white materials, complemented by luxurious gold accents: quartz surfaces with subtle sparkle add a touch of sophistication, while the metallic gold ceiling introduces glamour and elegance to the space. This refined combination of sleek monochrome tones and shimmering details creates a timeless, upscale atmosphere that feels both modern and inviting.
Neighborly hospitality and world-class amenities
At the core of The Club MDW is a commitment to personalized service. The 3,300 square foot space is small, but punches well above its weight with a full bar, multiple self-serve food options, and abundant seating — 90% of which has access to power. The lounge is designed to suit all traveler needs, whether they’re seeking a quiet spot to work or a comfortable space to unwind. Rather than relying on walls or other physical divisions, the space is zoned to create distinct atmospheres. The area near the bar and dining is lively and energetic, while further inside, the lounge transitions into a quieter, more secluded zone for relaxation or focused work. This intentional flow allows the lounge to feel spacious and versatile, accommodating all types of travelers.
The Club MDW has global appeal while remaining true to Chicago’s industrial and architectural history. The lounge’s design is visually stunning and based on principles that pay a great deal of attention to cost, operation, maintenance, and customer experience. The Club MDW is not just a stop on the traveler’s journey, but a destination in their overall travel experience.
