Bold Space for a Global Brand
In 1994, Wingstop began as a single restaurant, but now, the Texas brand known for bold flavors and technological innovation, has grown to more than 2,000 locations worldwide. Having outgrown its Addison, Texas headquarters, Wingstop asked Corgan to design a highly activated space rooted in its culture. As one of the fastest growing food brands, and with an exclusive partnership with the National Basketball Association, Wingstop was seeking a sophisticated and universal space to heighten its brand aesthetic.
Wingstop’s new 118,500-square-foot space is nearly double the size of its former corporate offices and is an inviting and invigorating space meant to rally and inspire employees and visitors. Located in the top floors of the One West Village building, the headquarters overlooks Uptown Dallas along highly traveled Central Expressway. Corgan’s design captures Wingstop’s vision for an intentional, connected, energized, and adaptable workplace with fully utilized spaces and areas throughout in which to collaborate, “get loud,” focus, and play.
Planned for Play
The headquarters’ spaces are unified by a monumental staircase rising through the four-story atrium. With a variety of plush seating options and floor-to-ceiling windows, the voluminous space is invigorated by panoramic city views, plentiful relaxed workstations, and small meeting spaces to spark engagement and curiosity.
The game room, with its speakeasy vibe, is a place for employees to play, get away, grab a drink, or have a casual meeting. With big screens, Pop-A-Shot, a golf simulator, custom ping pong, billiards tables and cozy seating, it is the definitive workplace hangout to rejuvenate or socialize.
Two centrally located break areas, The Coop and The Run, are equipped with freestyle soda machines, barista-worthy coffee choices and counter seating, which provide more gathering places to work or restore. The Hangar, a nod to Wingstop’s aviation theme, is an adaptable meeting space that accommodates up to 300 employees for companywide events.
The new headquarters is also equipped with a test kitchen and chef’s table, broadcast studio, and a point of sale (POS) lab for training, research, and development.
Soaring With Energy
Corgan’s design brought sophistication and amusement into day-to-day office life. Lively colors play throughout the space among the intentional placement of the brand’s omnipresent green. Additional colors lifted from unexpected restaurant items — like the café brown paper basket liners or the rust reminiscent of wing sauce — cleverly reinforce the brand.
At its core, the new office embodies Wingstop’s culture of fun and authenticity while amplifying the brand. Custom design elements give a nod to its restaurants: Instagram-worthy neon green wings, an oversized wall-mounted beverage cup, and an artful wall display of takeout paper bags express creativity and whimsy. Intimate corner spaces are accented with glossy, royal green tile and soft furnishings to add chic lounge appeal.
Designers conserved resources by leveraging existing amenities including conference rooms, restrooms, and the podcast studio, without compromising on design.
A Brand Beacon
The open floor plan creates dynamic and active areas but require ample lighting to balance the volume of space. A variety of decorative lighting elements are placed consistently throughout the community spaces on each floor. Curved linear ceilings lamps accentuate movement and energy and are repeated throughout the floors to enforce the overall design. The client also wanted several variations in lighting for meeting space so different decorative lights - ranging from pendants to wall sconces - are located throughout, allowing each room its own character. Additionally, the project team utilized the existing electrical system under the monumental stair, replacing the lights with color-changing LEDs, allowing Wingstop to set the color to green. This lighting application is visible from the highway, further expressing brand and presence.
Wingstop’s clear vision for an elevated and engaging workplace enabled Corgan to provide a headquarters that is fully inhabited and enlivened by its brand identity while maintaining a modern and invigorated backdrop built for future growth.
