Design That Embraces the Future of Learning

In partnership with Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District, Corgan is reimagining the district’s two high schools, including the new Trinity High School, an innovative campus that delivers an engaging learning environment with flexible and vibrant spaces to support student well-being and success. District leaders, stakeholders, and community members, who participated in a months-long visioning process, expressed a need for open circulation spaces, more natural light, and a safer, consolidated site. The original school site comprises 11 buildings. Corgan’s design includes four structures, including one that will remain from the current campus.

The core of the 541,424-square-foot replacement campus encompasses a four-story building with updated classrooms, administration offices, and academic labs. A new 2,860-seat competition gymnasium-events arena includes an auxiliary gym, gymnastics area, a dance studio, and locker rooms. A third structure is dedicated to the fine arts - with a 975-seat performance hall and lobby, a black box theater, and scene shop. Other campus upgrades include a terraced entrance, active courtyards, flexible learning environments; state-of-the-art media center-library; and a multipurpose student center with an updated kitchen.

Creating a Collegiate Setting

Through the visioning process, Corgan found the Trinity High School community sought to consolidate the campus and create a collegiate setting for their 2,800 students. The addition of courtyards and adaptable spaces promote a sense of spaciousness and reflect a college campus layout.

The design leverages existing site features - mature trees and topography - to optimize views and presence. Terracing and landscaping further invigorate the campus providing a welcoming entrance.

Students asked for a safe place to socialize, charge devices, and collaborate with peers. Corgan’s design reimagined the courtyard near the main entrance to provide green space and a connected outdoor gathering place. A second courtyard, adjacent to the new student union, with security fencing incorporated with the landscaping greenery, provides another space for students to meet, relax, and study.

Bright and imaginative interiors with updated Trojan mascot graphics will further upgrade the campus as well as the expansive student center, which is equipped with a coffee bar, school store and is easily accessible to the updated library-media center. The multipurpose area can be utilized throughout the day for individual study, dining, teaching, decompressing, or various gatherings.

Collaboration Spaces for Success

Preparing students for the future and delivering an ideal learning environment is at the core of the district’s mission. Corgan’s design calls for flexible, first-class learning environments, including business labs, a child development classroom, art studios, immersion labs, and a motor lab-sensory room to include and encourage students. Classroom pods and collaboration spaces provide alternative settings to teach, study, or work together. The multipurpose student union also connects to a courtyard suited with outdoor learning spaces.

Designed to Perform

The performing arts center and events arena are located on adjacent sides of the main academic building for campus cohesion and accessibility. The auditorium is connected to the fine arts wing, allowing for seamless rehearsals, staging, and instruction. Additional studio classrooms in the performance hall provide enhanced learning opportunities. The new arena, a state-of-the-art athletic venue, is equipped with a broadcast studio and can host more than 2,800 fans.

Diversity and School Pride, Artfully Displayed

Trinity High School staff and students take a great deal of pride in their diverse student population. Throughout the years, school leaders have collected more than 70 flags representing the different countries its pupils boast a heritage. Corgan elevated this concept in an artful display in a dedicated hall for the flags. Existing stained-glass will also be exhibited with empowering messages to inspire students. Corgan’s branding and graphics team is teaming with school leaders to create additional motifs, art, and signage to capture the community spirit and school history. Trophies and awards will also be a part of an invigorated display.

The realized Trinity High School will celebrate a rich legacy, provide 21st century learning opportunities, and strengthen community connections.

Corgan also designed the district’s other high school, L.D. Bell High School. Corgan provided complementary designs, while allowing each school to preserve its own identity.
