Resurrecting a historic Dallas landmark
Originally built as the Majestic Hotel in 1904 and later renovated in 1932, the Ambassador Hotel in South Dallas was once the city’s oldest luxury hotel. After sitting empty for many years, the hotel was at last slated to be remodeled in 2019 until a fire burned the historic landmark to the ground. In a joint effort to resurrect the iconic structure, OHT Partners teamed up with Corgan as the principal architect to design a luxury multifamily residence – The Ambassador Residences – inspired by the hotel’s original architecture.
Corgan designed a five-story inspired by the original structure and an adjoining seven-story multifamily Class A building on the site, honoring the Ambassador’s distinctive aesthetic.
Celebrating the past
In keeping with the ornament and design of the original Ambassador Hotel, which was in the turn-of-the-century Sullivanesque style, the building is delineated into three distinct parts: an entry level with prominent window and door openings, a mid-section with bands of windows with vertical piers, and a top with a decorative cornice. The facade features red brick and contrasting limestone accents with large format windows allowing for abundant natural light.
The multifamily building design provides a third-level amenity deck where occupants can socialize and entertain in a variety of shared hospitality-like amenity spaces including a pool deck with fabulous views of the Dallas skyline, a well-appointed fitness center, and an elegant lounge and club area. Ambassador Residences offer the luxury lifestyle and modern conveniences befitting one of Dallas’ oldest and most significant hotels.
