Comprehensive community healthcare

Corgan partnered with Parkland Health to design and build a 30,000-square-foot outpatient facility serving Northeast Dallas, supporting Parkland’s mission to “advance wellness, relieve suffering, develop, and educate.” Parkland’s Richland Health Center offers convenient access to public transportation, making it easily reachable from across the metroplex. The clinic offers a variety of health services under one roof, providing comprehensive care in a single location. With its own laboratory and pharmacy, the facility minimizes the number of stops patients need to make for routine visits and exams.

Parkland’s goal was to create a welcoming, community-focused, and secure environment for patients, families, and staff alike. The design process began with enhancing the overall patient experience and improving operational efficiency. To achieve this, the building’s interior is organized into two clearly defined wings that promote intuitive wayfinding and streamline movement throughout the clinic.

The left wing houses services such as pediatrics, podiatry, and adult care, while the right wing accommodates higher-traffic areas, including the pharmacy, radiology, and financial services. This thoughtful division not only supports a smoother patient journey but also improves efficiency for physicians moving between exam rooms. Exam spaces are intentionally separated from waiting areas, offering greater privacy and comfort.

Parkland Rendering

Distinctive design in a one-of-a-kind setting

The interior design concept incorporates bright finishes, marble accents, acoustical ceiling baffles, and warm ambient lighting. Parkland’s signature purple, complemented by tones of blue and brown, defines the interior palette. Warm wood cabinetry and terrazzo flooring extend through the entrance and waiting areas. Distinct from typical healthcare settings, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows bring in abundant natural light, fostering a calm atmosphere that is connected/provides expansive views to the outdoors.

Beyond creating a welcoming environment for patients, the design prioritizes staff comfort and functionality, with thoughtful material choices and spatial planning benefiting both groups. Designers focused on enhancing the staff experience by incorporating laminated glass in service areas, spacious offices, light wood flooring, and windows throughout staff spaces.

This emphasis on warmth and connection also shaped the building’s exterior character.

Inspired by the architecture of nearby Dallas College-Richland Campus, the design features wood soffits, exposed structural elements, and curtain glass walls framed in brick. The glass frontage prominently displays Parkland branding and exterior lighting, while an L-shaped drive provides a convenient, accessible drop-off area for patients.

The thoughtful design of the building seamlessly extends to the surrounding site, enhancing both accessibility and the pedestrian experience. The site is located next to an urban tree farm and the Dallas College Education Center, offering a safer, more pleasant walking route from the transit stop along a 10-foot-wide pedestrian walkway.

Through design that is sensitive to the patient and staff experience and surrounding natural environment, the Richland Health Center achieves a new level of service and experience for all.
