Hubbard Middle School, Tyler ISD

A school shaped by its site.

This 170,000-square-foot middle school currently under construction will replace an existing facility on the same site. In order to keep the existing school operational throughout construction and minimize disruption, the three-story design takes advantage of a steep grade change to efficiently stack the program and limit the building footprint to avoid impacting the existing school, creek and several groupings of mature trees. The classroom wing is organized around two open collaboration spaces at each level. The second story Library and terrace overlooks the entry plaza and student courtyard, where students can eat lunch, visit, or relax on terraced seatwalls built into the hillside.
