Advancing Frisco’s fine arts future

To build the largest fine arts facility in the district, Frisco Independent School District partnered with Corgan — a trusted partner for over 40 years — to develop a space that allows Frisco students to remain local for University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions, work with professional-grade theater equipment, and showcase their art as well as allowing the district to host larger-scale fine arts performances.

The 65,000 square-foot Frisco ISD Visual and Performing Arts Center will feature 1,200 seats, including an upper-level balcony and box seating, along with a 5,600 square-foot stage designed to facilitate high-caliber productions. Equipped with professional-grade theater technology, a full-sized stage, and a full-size orchestra pit accommodating up to 40 musicians, and a pit lift, this theater provides a more realistic theater experience for students than the typical high school facility.

This center marks a step forward in improving the district’s fine arts infrastructure and will serve Frisco ISD staff and students at every grade level, especially those pursuing futures in performing arts and media production, by offering direct, practical experience. The facility includes a dedicated rehearsal space, dressing rooms, and cutting-edge equipment.

Putting experience first

Corgan collaborated with technical experts to design a space with the audience’s experience in mind, incorporating advanced sound technology and tunable acoustics that can be adjusted based on the specific event. The theater is insulated from external noise — whether from nearby hallways, weather, or overhead planes — ensuring an uninterrupted experience. Every seat in the house enjoys consistent sound quality, thanks to careful acoustic design that considers how sound reflects off walls and travels beneath seats.

While the theater’s advanced sound design ensures an exceptional auditory experience for performances, the facility also offers versatile spaces to support a broad range of district activities and student creativity — from UIL competitions to professional development sessions and other special events. In addition, the facility features a 2,000 square-foot art gallery dedicated to showcasing the creative work of students from across the district. The careful attention to technical and spatial details ensures the theater not only supports a range of events but also meets all UIL specifications for student competitions.

The center was thoughtfully designed to reflect the district's artistic vision of bringing music to life for students. Corgan carried the musical theme throughout the building with a design inspired by a music staff. The interior features evenly spaced lines as well as light wood accents that are reminiscent of woodwind instruments. The center features rigid wall patterns in subtle blues and greys that complement the wood detailing, while elements of syncopated rhythm break up the repetition and add visual interest. The modern exterior features floor-to-ceiling windows, with the interior’s wood pattern extending to the overhang of the outdoor walkway — seamlessly blending the building’s musical inspiration with a contemporary aesthetic.
