Utility-scale energy storage infrastructure for a more resilient grid.
Located in San Diego County, California, the AES Fallbrook Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) demonstrates how innovative energy infrastructure can support grid reliability while enabling the continued growth of renewable energy. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, Corgan supported the planning and entitlement of this utility-scale energy storage campus, designed to deliver up to 40 MWh of energy during periods of peak demand.
The project utilizes a modular approach featuring 252 Fluence battery storage cubes, 14 inverter-transformer stations, and a substation designed to support future expansion up to 70 MW. Careful site planning minimized environmental impacts while creating a scalable, resilient energy platform capable of supporting evolving power demands. Security infrastructure, utility systems, access roads, and landscape strategies were integrated into a cohesive campus designed for long-term performance.
As power-intensive technologies such as AI computing, advanced manufacturing, and digital infrastructure continue to grow, projects like AES Fallbrook highlight the critical role energy storage plays in creating a more resilient and sustainable energy future. Through thoughtful planning and infrastructure coordination, the facility provides the flexibility, reliability, and scalability required to support next-generation technology ecosystems.
