Culture and hospitality converge in Charlotte

The Charlotte South End Hotel is an upscale boutique destination conceived as a cultural anchor at the heart of the South End, one of Charlotte’s fastest evolving and most culturally vibrant districts. Brought to life through a partnership between Corgan and Abeyta Architecture Studio, the benchmark project marks a significant first for the area: the neighborhood’s first lifestyle hotel designed for guests seeking an authentic urban experience. Rooted in the energy, history, and character found throughout its surroundings and Charlotte itself, the hotel serves as both a hospitality hub and a neighborhood fixture, offering visitors and locals alike a premier lifestyle experience.

Architecture-forward and a sense of place

The Charlotte South End Hotel is organized around a deliberate and distinctive concept: a landmark destination restaurant and bar with a hotel positioned above – a design that emphasizes a connection to the community and extends a welcoming atmosphere at street level. Rooted in authentic ingredients and an open-fire technique using Carolina clay, a modern Mexican-style restaurant commands the primary ground floor corner of the building. Designed for lingering, the hotel eatery draws guests and neighbors alike through its doors, further defining the hotel’s identity within the South End.

The building exterior features a glazed façade of alternating large-format glass units and solid metal panels, forming a clean-lined, contemporary addition to the neighborhood skyline. On the fifth floor, a podium terrace opens to an infinity pool, landscaped deck, and sweeping city views. A dedicated express elevator connects the street level directly to the rooftop bar, drawing activity upward and providing seamless access for hotel guests and residents alike. The hotel features a state-of-the-art fitness center and full-service spa, complete with hot and cold plunge pools, sauna, and steam facilities.

Shaped by the history of South End

South End traces its origins to the mid-19th century construction of Charlotte’s first railroad line that later gave rise to a textile district that anchored the area’s identity for generations, a legacy that remains visible today. South End has evolved into one of the city’s most popular urban destinations — home to breweries, galleries, celebrated dining, and the Charlotte Rail Trail.

The hotel interiors draw inspiration from two defining threads of Charlotte’s history: its textile heritage and its homage to Queen Charlotte, for whom the city is named. South End’s cotton mills and weaving traditions inform the interiors’ material language – woven textiles, interlaced finishes, and natural fibers that speak directly to the district’s industrial roots. The regal legacy of Queen Charlotte is reflected in the richness of the palette, the warmth of the finishes, and the considered elegance running through the hotel’s refined public spaces and guest rooms.

At the center of the lobby, an eye-catching woven textile mural depicting South End’s transportation heritage and Charlotte’s evolving skyline meaningfully communicates the identity of the space and setting.

A hotel that reflects the city it calls home

The Charlotte South End Hotel extends the spirit of a neighborhood long defined by possibility. By translating South End’s history, creativity, and momentum into every dimension of its design expression, Corgan shaped a hospitality experience that stands as a proud reflection of Charlotte itself.
