A new chapter for Bushland High School
Bushland ISD tapped Corgan to reimagine its high school campus through a future-ready lens to reflect the evolving needs of modern learning and its growing community. Corgan’s modern design is a welcome addition to the community, helping to draw more families from Amarillo and surrounding towns. The campus now offers a place for connection, quality education and community pride.
The new Bushland High School is situated beside the existing high school. The existing building was thoughtfully repurposed as the new junior high school to maximize the use of the current infrastructure and reduce costs by reusing the indoor football field and outdoor baseball, softball and football fields.
Facilities for performance and pride
Bushland ISD aimed to transform the athletic experience for its student-athletes and the community. Corgan‘s design features a large, arena-style competition gymnasium offering a premier environment for Falcon home games and district events while a dedicated practice gym provides athletes with space and flexibility for additional programming and training. Outside, the high school and junior high share a new state-of-the-art football stadium and practice fieldhouse. Baseball and softball fields were also relocated on site and intentionally oriented for ideal sun shadows.
Beyond athletics, the new Bushland High School fosters creativity and connection to performing arts with a large performance hall equipped with advanced lighting, acoustics and integrated media technology. With seating for up to 800 guests, the venue invites the larger community to engage in student performances and concerts throughout the year. Dedicated band and choir halls also provide students with enhanced rehearsal spaces and more opportunities to explore performing arts.
Preparing students for all pathways
To support evolving curriculums, the district wanted the two-story academic wing to include flexible learning environments and CTE spaces. Corgan’s design supports programs such as welding, robotics and EMT/CMA training that are housed in labs that mirror real-world settings and give students early exposure and hands-on experience with in-demand professions. A food lab equipped with residential kitchenette stations and a floral shop allow students to explore additional pathways like culinary arts and design. These spaces broaden pathways for students to succeed whether their goals post-graduation take them to college, technical training, or directly into the workforce.
