Landing a new HQ
As part of their forward-looking business strategy, Boston-based healthcare technology company, athenathealth, recently relocated its global headquarters from Arsenal Yards in Watertown to Boston Landing in Allston. As part of this move, the company assessed its existing office use. To accommodate a hybrid workforce, the new, more efficient design employs shared desks and other types of workspaces, reducing its footprint by more than half.

Reduce, reuse, renovate
The goal of the new space was to encourage collaboration, accommodate hybrid work, and emphasize its brand. The first phase of the targeted renovation involved a three-floor redesign for the relocation of athenahealth’s headquarters. The new design transformed the space to reflect the client’s culture and brand, while integrating existing infrastructure and finishes. This approach not only reduced project costs but also embraced principles of sustainability and reuse.

Facing forward
In phase two, the team designed a 13,000 square-foot conference center, built out from a shell condition. This new space, supported by a hospitality area with a bar and barista, complements the aesthetic of the office while featuring high-end finishes that are suitable for client presentations. The reconfigurable presentation rooms can accommodate both in-person and hybrid gatherings of up to 200 people. A new digital experience zone equipped with a curved immersive video wall enables engaging client presentations and brand experiences.
