New Burbank terminal combines modern design with vintage Hollywood

The design of the new terminal at the Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) is inspired by old Hollywood glamour with hints of Art Deco and Mid-Century design. Corgan, in partnership with CannonDesign and Burns & McDonnell, designed the new terminal and serves as the architect of record for the project.
The terminal is named “the Icon” and will feature 355,000 sq ft, 14 gates, new parking facilities, and a replacement airline cargo structure. It will have a centralized check-in and security checkpoint, a new airline support facility and a new six-level parking garage, along with new amenities and retail options.
The exterior of the terminal will feature a curved, swooping roof and canopy supported by V-shaped columns to represent red-carpet spotlights. Corgan states that the curvature provides more shade over the plaza and across the parking garage. To enhance safety, the terminal will be moved away from the runway and meet Risk Category III seismic building codes.
