Greenway Plaza lands architecture firm tenant
"Corgan’s Houston presence is increasing, and as the firm earns more work in the area, the team is expanding to match the demand,” said Brian Reddy, Corgan associate principal and director of the Houston office. “Houston is known for energy and health care, but there is much more to the city’s story and we’re proud to help tell it through the spaces and buildings we design.”
When designing its new office, Corgan said it used the same approach it employs when working with clients. The company started with a number of programming sessions that emphasized community, innovation and belonging.
Corgan tapped Addison-based Scott & Reid's Houston office to serve as general contractor for the project.
The design Corgan came up with features a custom wooden bench that was developed by the firm’s designers in collaboration with Corgan’s model shop and computational specialists.
And to reflect the company’s ethos, Corgan added an “agility wall,” which uses 2,000 free-moving wooden pegs within a static grid frame to create variations in form, light and shadow.
A filing submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said the buildout of Corgan’s new office was expected to cost $1.1 million. TDLR filings are preliminary and are often subject to change.
Corgan first entered the Houston market in 2008 and has since overseen the design of a range of high-profile projects in the area, including in the aviation, commercial, education, workplace interiors, and health care sectors.
The company’s clients include William P. Hobby Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Southwest Airlines, Houston Methodist Medical System, Skybox Datacenters, JPMorgan Chase, Lovett Commercial and others.
The firm recently completed an adaptive reuse project for Common Desk at Post Houston, as well as offices for the Weaver accounting firm and the $12 million remodel of 5 Post Oak Park. Corgan is also working on the new Fort Bend ISD middle school.
Corgan has been expanding in recent years. The company has opened offices in four new markets and now has 18 total, with more planned for 2024 and beyond.
In 2023, Corgan ranked No. 19 on the Houston Business Journal’s List of the largest Houston-area architecture firms. The company reported local billings of $7.68 million in 2022.
