What architect/designer/project most inspires you and why?

Tadao Ando’s Water Temple is the quietest, most spiritual modern building that I’ve experienced. It’s an incredibly simple composition. You arrive at a circular pond with evenly spaced lily pads and then descend stairs down into the middle of the pond. When you find yourself in the dark space below the pond, you see a wooden temple glowing red. The whole thing is very dream-like.

In one word, why do you love what you do?

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?

I loved baseball and drawing cartoon characters. I would spend hours with a plastic bat in my room imitating the batting stances of pro hitters. The connection to drawing came through my grandmother. She was an artist, and she would draw with me in her living room. I didn’t really care which happened, but I either wanted to become a major league baseball player or work for Disney in their animation studio.
