Corgan was commissioned by American Airlines to assist in the planning, programming, and design development of American Airlines new Hub facilities at Miami International Airport. Approximately 2.2 million square feet of new construction was added to 1.7 million square feet of renovated and converted areas. The resulting design recognizes the applicable components of the existing facilities, while creating a new, clean and unified image that enhances operational efficiency, and improves passenger levels of service. Planning and programming of AA's future schedule required the development of a 47-gate facility, 38-commuter parking positions, 4,000-passenger-per-hour FIS, people mover system, new outbound baggage system, new baggage claim areas, and consolidation of all airline support facilities.
